About Gaia, 2024
Es ist immer Gaia, die »ich« in uns sagt. Wir sind die Welt und jede und jeder von uns ist auf ihre Weise weltlich. Alle zusammen sind wir ihr Inhalt, aber auch und vor allem ihre Gestalt. Das »Ich« ist niemals eine rein persönliche Eigenschaft oder Tätigkeit: Es ist eine tellurische Kraft.

It is always Gaia who says »I« in us. We are world, and each of us is worldly in our own way. Together we are its content but also, and above all, its form. The »I« is never a purely personal function or activity: it is a telluric force.

The installation refers to Gaia, a primordial goddess of Greek mythology who embodies the earth, and contemplatively revolves around the question of our relationship to nature. The ‘Gaia hypothesis’ states that the earth functions like a living organism that supports life in organic and inorganic matter. The video was shot in a garden area at Stuttgart's Nordbahnhof, which has grown over the years in the urban space and will have to make way for the upcoming construction work in the long term.

Die Installation bezieht sich auf Gaia, eine Urgöttin der griechischen Mythologie, die die Erde verkörpert und kreist kontemplativ um die Frage nach unserer Beziehung zur Natur. Die „Gaia-Hypothese“ besagt, dass die Erde wie ein lebendiger Organismus funktioniert, der das Leben in organischer und anorganischer Materie unterstützt. Das Video wurde in einem über Jahre im urbanen Raum gewachsenen Gartenareal am Nordbahnhof in Stuttgart gedreht, welches für anstehende Baumaßnahmen auf lange Sicht weichen muss.
