After Nature? The word ‘nature’ is derived from ‘natus’ meaning ‘born’. Hölderlin’s deep-rooted connection to nature and the general question of what constitutes your natural character meld here. After Nature transport us into a narrative space between inside and outside worlds, into a narrative that does not need words: Two large tree roots ripped out of the earth by a storm were placed on the gallery floor, while a magpie sat on a branch affixed to the wall. After Nature – Nach der Natur – hat Sabine Kuehnle ihre Installation genannt. Das Wort »Natur« leitet sich von »natus« ab, »geboren». Hölderlins Naturbezug und die generelle Frage danach, wer man naturgemäß ist, fließen hier unmittelbar in eins. Und freilich sind Natur, Heimat, Herkunft und Identität auch ganz unabhängig von Kunst und Poesie auf das Engste miteinander verbunden, denn wir alle sind ein Teil der Natur, und das Bedürfnis, Natur zu erfahren, ist tief im Menschen verankert.
